Headquartered in Zurich, the company was created in 2020/21 when Hitachi acquired a majority stake in ABB’s Power Grids business, merged it with its own power business and formed Hitachi Energy. It was a major merger, creating a company with 56,000 employees in 60 countries and revenues of around $20 billion.

How do you build one company from two?

It was not only a merger of companies, but also of cultures. Bringing different organisations and people together on this scale is a major transformation. And communications played a key role: addressing the worries and fears of employees and clients, creating continuity while building a new community and identity.
